My Approach
As a first generation college Latina and Taíno student who came from poverty and a single parent household, access to higher education changed not only my life, but the trajectory of my family. During my college years my love and passion for activism, equity, and inclusion grew through my own personal struggles and experiences in trying to navigate not only college, but the world. Through my education, investing in my own healing, and staying grounded through my culture, family, and community allowed me to obtain my Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Social Work with a special focus on mental health and healing within marginalized communities. I am passionate about breaking the stigma of mental health in Communities of Color, and I apply a holistic approach to decolonize the therapy space, empowering clients to reclaim what healing looks like in their culture while reconnecting them to the roots of their identity and the sacred wisdom of their ancestors. I am intentional in actively challenging systemic oppression and re-centering the narrative to the intersecting identities of my clients and their salient needs. By harnessing the Ghanian term “Sankofa” meaning "to go back and get", I express the importance of understanding and reaching back into the past to grow in the future, the true reflection of ancestral strength that will not only heal the client, but their generations to come.

With over 14 years of experience in the mental health field serving diverse and underserved populations, I carry with me a trauma-informed lens and culturally responsive approach to education and to all services I provide. I am intentional in creating a brave space for others to learn about themselves and strengthen their leadership skills so that they may achieve their goals and show up as their most true and authentic self.
